thinkers and continued into
the Roman Empire until the closing of all pagan philosophy schools in 529 AD by
Emperor Justinian I. Ancient Greek
philosophy dealt with many subjects, which included politics, ontology, logic
aesthetics, rhetoric, metaphysics and ethics.
Greek philosophy influenced a great deal of Western culture. Many philosophies from other cultures after the end of Ancient Greek philosophy are thought to have gotten their insight from the teachings of the Ancient Greeks.
However, some believe Ancient Greek philosophy was influenced by even older thought from the ancient and Near East. Furthermore, the reasoning is that the Greeks took this knowledge and expanded it with reasoning and explanation. This gives the Greeks the credit for the invention of philosophy.
