medicine began as a form of Humoral theory.
The Ancient Greeks formally constructed this theory which states that good
health comes from perfect balance of the four humors blood, phlegm, yellow
bile, and black bile. Hippocrates of Kos
who lived 460 to 370 BC and is known as the "Father of Modern
Medicine". He formed a medical school
in Kos which through study and observation developed technics in medicine.
Hippocrates developed the Hippocratic Oath for physicians, which is still in use today. This consisted of ethical standards and medical practices. His and other contributions to ancient Greek medicine lasted Europe and Mediterranean region until many of methods eventually became obsolete in the 14th century.
One of the first Greek medical schools opened in Cnidus in 700 BC. Alcmaeon, worked at this school. He wrote the first anatomical compilation and practiced early patient observation.
The Greeks used Egyptian substances in their pharmacopoeia. This is observed after a Greek medical school is establishment Alexandria.
